Specifications for Third Year Primary Examination 2009-2010

English for 1st  & 2nd  Terms           50 Marks                            Time: 1½ Hours

 

A. Reading (25 Marks)

1- Read and match:

Pupils are given (6) words (Column A) and (5) pictures (Column B). Pupils match the words with the pictures.                                                                    (10 Marks. 2 marks each )

2-Look at the pictures, read the sentences and circle Yes or No.

Pupils have to look at ( 5 ) pictures with ( 5 ) sentences and have to write Yes or No.

(15 Marks. 3 marks each)

B. Writing  (25 Marks)

3-Look and write(10 marks)

Pupils are given (4) pictures and (4) words with two missing letters in each word.

Pupils write the missing letters .                    (10 Marks — 2½ marks each)

4-Look and write(10 marks)

Pupils are given (4) pictures. Pupils write the words for them.    

 (10 Marks - 2½  mark each)

5- Copy the following sentence in good handwriting. (5 Marks)

Pupils are asked to copy a sentence of not more than eight words.

A . Reading(24 Marks)

1-Read and circle the odd one out: (12 Marks)

Pupils are given four (4) sets of words, each of four words. They circle the word that doesn’t belong to each set.                                                 (3 marks each )

2-Read and match the words with the numbers: (12 Marks)

Pupils are asked to match four words with their numbers. (3 marks each)

B. Writing (26 Marks)

3-Rearrange the following words to make meaningful sentences: ( 9 Marks)

Pupils are given three (3) sets of jumbled words of not more than five (5) words each. Pupils are asked to write the words in the correct order beginning with the underlined word, to make meaningful sentences. (3 marks each)

4-Look at the pictures and write the missing word in each sentence: (8 Marks )

Pupils are given four (4) pictures . A sentence with one (1) missing word is provided under each picture . Pupils are asked to look at each picture and write the missing word.

(2 marks each)

5-Punctuate the following sentence  ( 4 marks)

A sentence of about six (6) words, without four (4) punctuation marks is given. Pupils are asked to punctuate the sentence correctly.                                               (1 mark each)

6-Copy the following sentence:  (5 Mark s)

Pupils are asked to copy a sentence of about eight (8) words

A. Reading Comprehension (20 Marks)

Pupils are given four (4) varied sets of words, each of four (4) words. They circle the word that doesn’t belong to each set.                                              (2 marks each)

4- Match the questions with the answers: (4 Marks)

Four (4) Wh and Yes/No questions and five (5) answers are provided. Pupils are asked to match each question with its correct answer.                              (1 mark each)

5- a-Read and choose a, b, or c:      (8 Marks)

A text (unseen in the Set Books) of not more than 40 words is provided. All words and structures in the text should be from the set books. Pupils are asked to answer 4 MC questions with 3 options each.                                                  (2 marks each)

OR

 b-Read and put a ( √ )or (x):  (4 Marks)

A text (unseen in the Books) of not more than 40 words is provided. All words and structures in the text should be from the set books. Pupils are asked to answer four(4) true or false items based on the text.                                                                 (One mark each)

The questions should test the following reading comprehension skills:

* extracting information                                * giving the main idea

C. Writing  ( 30 Marks)

6- Finish the sentences with words from the list:         (12 Marks)

Pupils are given four (4) separate varied sentences with four (4) deletions in the sentences with words from a list of 5 words.                                 (3 marks each)

7- Rearrange the following words to make meaningful sentences: (12 Marks)

Pupils are given four (4) sets of jumbled words of not more than five (5) words each. Pupils are asked to write the words in the correct order beginning with the underlined word.                                                                                  (3 marks each)

8- Punctuate the following sentence: (4 Marks)

A sentence of about six (6) words, without four (4) punctuation marks is given. Pupils are asked to punctuate the sentence correctly.

9-Copy the following sentence: (2 marks)

Pupils are asked to copy a sentence of about eight (8) words.

Specifications for Sixth Year Primary Certificate Examination 2009-2010

          English                                                                                    Time: 1 ½ Hours

A-Language Functions (11 Marks)

1- Finish the following dialogue with these words: (6 Marks)

A dialogue, similar to the types of the Set Books, with three (3) deletions is provided. Pupils are asked to fill in the deletions with key words from a list of Four (4) words.      (2 marks each)

2-Choose the correct answer from a. b. or c (5 Marks)

Two (2) mini-dialogues are provided. In the first, the response is deleted, and, in the second the stimulus is deleted. Pupils are required to choose the correct answer out of the three (3) options given in each item.           (2½ marks each)

B-Reading Comprehension    (18 Marks)

3-Read and match:        (10 Marks)

Pupils are asked to match four (4) parts of sentences, words and opposites, or questions and answers (4 items in column A and 5 items in column B).             (2½ marks each)

4-Read the following then answer the questions:         (8 Marks)

 A text of about Fifty (50) words is provided. Most words and all structures in the text should be from the Set Books. Pupils are asked to answer two (2) open-ended questions and two (2) MC questions with three (3) options each.           (2  marks each)

The questions should test the following reading comprehension skills:

* extracting information

* giving the main idea

* understanding reference

C-Usage & Writing       (21Marks)

5-Choose the correct answer from a. b. or c :    (9 Marks)

Six (6) MC items (3 vocabulary & 3 structure) based on the material in the Set Books are provided. Pupils are required to choose the correct answer out of the three options given in each item.                                                                                              (1½ mark each)

6- Look at the following pictures. then write a sentence describing each: (6 Marks)

Three (3) clear and expressive pictures are provided. Pupils are asked to write one meaningful sentence describing each picture.                                     (2 marks each)

 

D-Punctuation and Handwriting (6 Marks)

7- Punctuate the following sentence:         (4 Marks)

A sentence of about Seven (7) words, without Four (4) punctuation marks, is provided. The pupils are required to punctuate the sentence correctly.               (1 mark each)

8- Copy the following sentence: (2 marks)

The pupils are asked to copy a sentence of about Ten (10) words.

( Total : 25 Marks for each term )
